The social media giant’s CEO Shou Zi Chew responded with a video on the platform shortly after the bill became law.

ByteDance now has nine months to sell TikTok under the terms of the Biden-signed bill, with an additional three months if a deal is almost achieved. Additionally, the rule would prohibit ByteDance from dominating the social media platform's highly sought-after algorithm, which is largely responsible for the app's success.

FBI Director Christopher Wray called TikTok a "national security concern" and claimed that ByteDance is "reliant to the Chinese government," which is "attempting to steal our AI and hack American technology every day" in an interview with NBC's Lester Holt.
